Principal’s Report – Jess Temoananui
Welcome to the New School Year!
Dear Families,
Welcome to another exciting school year at Young North Public School! It is wonderful to see our students settling into their classes and engaging enthusiastically in their learning. A special welcome to our new families—we are delighted to have you join our school community and look forward to sharing this journey with you.
We are also pleased to introduce new staff members to our team. Kayla Maxwell has joined our front office and will be with us full-time. She brings a wealth of experience from Tomaree Public School, and we are fortunate to have her expertise. Additionally, we extend a warm welcome to Ryan Liddell, who joins us from Newcastle. We are confident that both Kayla and Ryan will make valuable contributions to our school.
This year, we are thrilled to have three full kindergarten classes, all of whom have had a fantastic start to their schooling journey. It is inspiring to witness their enthusiasm for learning each day.
Parent & Grandparent Volunteers
We are seeking parent and grandparent volunteers to support various school initiatives, particularly in the area of reading support. If you are interested in becoming more involved, please speak with your child’s teacher. Additionally, if you have a special talent or skill that you would like to share with our students, we would love to hear from you! Your participation greatly enriches our students’ learning experiences.
New Clubs for 2025
We are excited to introduce three new extracurricular clubs this year: Cooking Club, Gardening Club, and Craft Club, facilitated by Mrs Angela Martin. These clubs will provide students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences while fostering pro-social behaviours and engagement. Additionally, we will continue working to enhance our school’s kitchen facilities in the hall to support these initiatives.
Upcoming Sporting Events & School Projects
Our K-2 students will soon begin the Gecko Sports program, a dynamic initiative designed to develop fundamental movement skills. We look forward to seeing their enthusiasm and progress.
Additionally, our annual School Swimming Carnival will take place on Friday, February 21st. We encourage all primary students to attend, even if they do not wish to participate in races, as there will be a variety of fun activities available in the smaller pools and on the grassed area. Event details have been sent home this week.
We are also excited about the commencement of our Yarning Circle Project in the coming months. This space will undergo significant improvements, including new drainage, turf, seating, and a shade sail, creating a welcoming and inclusive outdoor learning environment for our students.
Communication Policy
Our new Communication Policy is now in full effect. Please note that any urgent messages requiring immediate attention during prime learning hours must be directed through the front office. Our office staff will ensure that relevant teachers receive necessary notifications. If you need to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher, appointments can be arranged through the main office.
I am truly honoured to be serving as Relieving Principal again in 2025 and look forward to working with our students, families, and staff to create a successful and enriching year for all.
Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to a fantastic school year ahead!
Warm regards,
Jessica Te Moananui

- You may like to add a comment if the reason doesn't give enough explanation. E.g. If the reason given is 'Medical' you may explain if this is due to a dentist appointment or due to illness.
