Principal’s Report – Jess Te Moananui
Dear Families,
It has been another vibrant and eventful few weeks at Young North, filled with exciting opportunities in both the performing arts and sport, as well as strong community engagement.
On Wednesday, 25 June, 25 of our students travelled to Wollongong to participate in a Southern Stars rehearsal. This included a group of our Indigenous students, who will proudly perform a Welcome to Country, participate in the dynamic dance number “We’re Not Gonna Take It”, and join over 3,500 students from across NSW on stage for the spectacular finale. We are also proud of our non-Indigenous students, who have been rehearsing under the expert guidance of Mrs McIllhatton and in the upcoming weeks, Miss Joy, in preparation for the full production next term. This is a fantastic opportunity for all involved to celebrate culture, creativity, and collaboration on a grand stage.
On the sporting front, things are full steam ahead! On Thursday, 26 June, 26 students competed in Round One of the PSSA Soccer Knockout, while ten senior boys represented our school in PSSA Touch in Harden. In addition, 16 of our students will take part in the Classic Shield Boys Tackle Rugby League competition in Wagga next Thursday, 3rd July.
This week, we were delighted to welcome Miss Shannon Blythe back from maternity leave. It’s wonderful to have your return, Shannon – we look forward to seeing the impact of your experience and enthusiasm in Kindergarten.
A big thank you to everyone who supported our Stage Three excursion fundraiser last Friday through the hot chip fundraiser, which raised $1,140. This week, your generosity continued with strong support for Beanies for Brain Cancer, and next Thursday, we will be holding our Jump Rope for Heart event — another fantastic way to support a good cause while promoting fitness and fun.
Looking ahead, next week our teaching staff will engage in Collaborative Planning, focusing on the detailed analysis of student data to plan the next five-week learning cycle. We are also preparing to host some very important guests on Thursday, 24 July, including Carolynne Merchant, and a team of visitors from Cowra Public School who will be observing our Explicit Teaching practices across K–6 in phonics, reading, mathematics, and writing.
Our Book Character Parade will be held on Friday of Week 2, using the theme “Book Your Adventure.” We can’t wait to see the creativity of our students and families on display.
School reports will be sent home on Tuesday, 1 July, and we’re adding a bit of fun this year! Students will be invited to take part in a competition to identify which Team Viz characters our teachers will be dressed as. The big reveal will happen during our Education Week Assembly in Term 3, Week 3, where the winner will receive a generous $100 gift voucher. This will be followed by a picnic lunch. The theme for Education Week this year is “Ignite Your Potential,” and each class will showcase something special for your enjoyment. Stay tuned for more details.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. Together, we are building a thriving school community that celebrates learning, achievement, and student voice.
Warm regards,
Jessica Te Moananui

YNPS Uniform Update

Exciting News: Our New School Polo!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are thrilled to announce that, after thoughtful consultation with our parent community, we have decided on a new school polo that embodies the values and spirit of our school, affectionately known as "The Blue School."
Our new polo is designed with your family’s needs in mind. It is not only affordable, but also practical and easy to care for, making it perfect for everyday wear. Crafted from a high-quality poly cotton cool dry fabric, this polo mirrors the comfort and style of the YHS uniform while proudly showcasing our unique school emblem.
We believe that this new uniform will not only look great but will also be flattering for all our students, helping them to feel confident and proud as representatives of our school community.
Starting from early Term 4, you will have the opportunity to purchase the new polo at a discounted price right from our school office. Additionally, it will also be available through Chapman’s Embroidery, offering you the flexibility to choose the most convenient option for your family.
We encourage you to embrace this exciting change and support our students as they wear their new uniforms with pride. Together, let’s continue to foster a strong sense of belonging and identity within our school.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
