Principal’s Report – Jess Te Moananui
Term 2, Week 3 - May 2025
Dear Families,
I hope all our mothers and grandmothers had a wonderful Mother’s Day! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our Mother’s Day BBQ and Open Classrooms; it was a delightful opportunity to celebrate and connect. A special shout-out to our P&C for organising an amazing Mother’s Day stall!
I’d also like to extend my gratitude to our P&C, who are currently fundraising to update our kitchen area in the hall. This space is utilised by many community organisations and is essential for our students participating in prosocial programs, such as cooking.
Term 2 has kicked off with an exciting start! Over the next few weeks, your children will be completing assessments as teachers finalise our first semester reports. You may notice some changes to our reports as we transition everything over to Sentral. This new system will enable teachers to track learning data through a comprehensive mark book, providing a holistic view of each child’s learning journey. We welcome your feedback on our new reports, and we hope you will find many similarities to our previous format. Our school takes pride in how we report to families, and we have excelled in this area according to the School Excellence Framework. We aim to maintain this high standard during our transition, so your insights are invaluable.
I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our teachers this term. They have facilitated Indigenous Dance lessons, Jump Rope for Heart, Riverina Netball trials, the Soccer Gala Day, the Athletics Carnival, organised Staff Wellbeing Week, and our annual Cross Country event. We also participated in the Do It for Dolly initiative, which carries a vital message of kindness, and we are collaborating closely with local services to ensure our students understand the importance of being kind to one another.
Recently, I attended the Rural and South West Principal Conference, where I had the privilege of presenting with Katie Wilkes on our school transition process. Congratulations to Katie for her outstanding work in this area! I am also excited to announce that Josie Bailey, our Executive Director, has selected Young North to collaborate with schools from other networks as a lighthouse school for best teaching practices. We are thrilled to be chosen for this opportunity and look forward to sharing more details with you soon.
As always, please remember to check our upcoming calendar for all events. Thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community!
Warm regards,
Jessica Te Moananui
